The Romantic Office Dandy Project
Context
In 2011 I was a mentee at a fashion incubator in the city of Borås, Sweden, when I was invited to participate to the Show Up Award with a fashion line submission.
Challenge
The challenge I decided to tackle for my submission was one I had encountered as a young office employee, namely wanting a quick look refresh when going directly from work to a night out with friends.
My Submission
I took inspiration from iconic women’s office suits of the 80s, with tailored looks and brown colours. I then added a pinch of vintage romanticism, and named the collection “Romantic Office Dandy”. The output was a line of matching clothing pieces that could be each worn in different ways:
tailored trousers in no-wrinkle, soft wool that could be worn high-waisted or with the waist-belt folded down
a double-face doughnut vest to be worn either lose and open, or closed with a matching rose brooch
a shoulder bag with removable strap, which could turn into a hand pouch
I added a matching hat and necklace made with the fabric scraps from the clothing, as zero-waste was also a value I wanted to embed in the line.
My submission won me a finalist spot at the award.
Reflections
Fashion can be a driver of innovation and cultural change. Big fashion companies are in leading positions to create pivotal impact, promoting multi-purpose clothing and sustainable production.
Nu-Nomad
Context
After dribbling with different handmade bags’ businesses over the years, in 2010 I founded Nu-Nomad, a small company creating small batches of bags with fabrics gathered during trips.
Challenge
Nu-Nomad was a response to mass-produced, anonymous bags on the market. The business value was creating something not only unique, but expressive of the enrichment that traveling can bring into our personal style, yet without forgetting that functionality is required in modern lifestyles.
The Collections
Various collections were created during the years, typically developed under traveling themes as umbrellas. Two examples:
On the Silk Road: a voyage on the silk road, with fabrics and bags’ models touching on Western Asia, India and Japan.
Letters from a traveller: messenger bags models inspired by the iconic postmen’s bags, and speaking of distant countries.
Reflections
Countries around the world have specialised in specific fabric productions and patterns-making. Fashion can inspire and foster appreciation for other cultures in a way which can embed such appreciation into daily material culture.
Storytelling
Creating short and catchy storytelling to engage users with mood and emotion
Irony, retro mood and plot twist
Funk Vibes From Planet Retro
This is a short music video I created to to send as entry to the Assembly Winter 2026 event in Helsinki.
The video tells a quirky story of aliens and grannies, in a retro settings inspired by cultural trends of the 80s-and early 1990s.
The initial concept was to create a video homage to the Jane Fonda aerobics cultural trend of the 1980s. The story then naturally evolved by following the available copyright-free footage on Pexels.com.
The music was created with GarageBand (my original tune), video footages from Pexels, some images edited with Unfold. Final video edited with iMovie.
Emotion and atmosphere
When We First Met
The video was created to match an original tune I had created. Being the tune a bit dreamy, I leaned into a similar evocative emotion for the storyline. The concept of soul mates, of meeting over and over throughout different lives, is at the core of “When We First Met”.
Luckily enough, the perfect video footage was available on the platform Pexels to match the mood. The overall aesthetic is retro, a common thread in my video and music.
